Progress towards building our labyrinth as of 03/01/2011
The Almetto Howey Alexander Labyrinth Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization. Your donations are tax deductible.
The Almetto Howey Alexander Labyrinth Fundraising Program was established in the early summer of 2010. It was designed to be a short-term, high-growth program. Initial initiatives of selecting the designer and installation artist, of receiving partnership donation of the location space, and the engagement of sixteen enthusiastic volunteers within and outside of the community are excellent indicators that the fundraising program, set into motion by the Foundation Committee, will be a success. The launching of the program to the public began on June 19, 2010 at the Juneteenth celebration in Charlotte. We still actively seek funds to repay the loan which enabled us to proceed with the installation.
Tom Schulz, MFA, Artist, generously offered to donate the 4' x 6' painting of the labyrinth — based on the life of Almetto Howey Alexander — to the benefactor who contributes $25,000 to the Foundation to complete payment of the project loan. Along with the moving visual value of this distinguished work, painted with the very polymer stains that will be used on the labyrinth itself, we believe this piece is important for its historic value as well, being the first known Afro-Centric labyrinth in the United States. $25,000. To purchase or for details, contact Tom Schulz.
